MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging

MRI, simply put, uses powerful magnets, radio waves and a computer to produce detailed pictures of the area of interest. They are similar looking and often confused with CT, however, they are very different. Our pair of MRI machines complement each other nicely, allowing us the advantage of scheduling patients on the scanner that will produce the greatest quality of imaging for each patient’s specific needs.

In Preparation

Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing. No metals including jewelry will be allowed so please remove them in advance. Please contact us at 907-373-3700 for additional information. Contrast exams require an IV to be placed, please drink water to hydrate prior to your exam.

What to Expect

Our 3T MRI unit has a bigger bore for more room for the patient, resulting in a better patient experience and less anxiety. Depending on your level of anxiety, you may want to discuss medication options with your primary care provider prior to your MRI appointment.

Why Valley Imaging MRI

We have two state-of-the-art MRI machines, a 3 Tesla and the more common, 1.5 Tesla. Our 3T is Alaska’s most advanced MRI and provides higher resolution and better diagnostic accuracy. The 1.5T excels when it comes to patients with joint replacements, and other MRI-safe implanted devices and is less susceptible to metal artifacts.

MR Imaging

We offer a wide variety of exams including, but not limited to contrast studies, elastography, prostate, orthopedic, neuro, and general diagnostic studies.

Clausrophobic?

Both of our scanners offer updated technology providing faster exam times for patients and the largest manufactured bore. This offers greater comfort for all patients, including those that may be claustrophobic, as well as pediatric patients that may need extra assistance.
